What helped me in March? It was recorded. Everywhere.

Your music, your messages, your calendar, the routes you walked. An honest record of your life already exists. It just isn't yours to read. UnderstandUrself brings it onto one private timeline, on your device, under a key only you hold.

Why we are building this

Understanding yourself starts with a record you already have.

Every tool that promises self-knowledge asks you to start from a blank page and keep it up every day. Almost nobody can. Meanwhile the record already exists. It sits with companies that make their money watching you. Read by them. Never by you. UnderstandUrself hands it back.

66%
of adults in Germany say they feel stressed at least sometimes, up from 57% in 2013.
62%
of Europeans are concerned they lack control over their own data once it is online.
73%
of German smartphone users already use health and fitness apps. Self-tracking is normal, not fringe.

What it does

Four things, and they only work together.

Each one works on history you already have. Together they turn a pile of separate accounts into one place you can move through, and none of it leaves your device to make that happen.

01 / timeline

Walk back into your own days

Not a statistic about last spring. Last spring itself: the photos, the messages, the appointments, the music, the route you took, woven into one day you can move through again. A correlation tells you something happened. Walking back in lets you feel what it was like.

02 / sources

Full before you write anything

The recording already happened, so the app works backwards through whatever history you bring it: messages, calendar, Spotify, and a one-tap daily mood if you want one. The first thing you read is already about you.

03 / relevance

Find what already helped

Similar is easy. Useful is the point. If today feels heavy, it finds a stretch when a similar mood lifted, and shows you what surrounded the change. Your own history, described. Never a prediction.

04 / reflection

A lighter place to think

Look-backs, trackers you define yourself, and an assistant that helps you make sense of what you are seeing, grounded in your real history rather than generic advice. It is always clearly software, and it says so.

What a look-back looks like

This is the whole idea, on one card.

You get a day back, with enough around it that you can recognise it, and decide for yourself what it meant. No score, no verdict.

Every few days is completely fine, and there is nothing to break if you skip a week. To understand yourself you need to spend time with yourself, not with an app.

a day like today

14 march

Four months ago you had a week that felt like this one. It lifted. Here is what was around it.

Slept 90 minutes longer than the week before
Long walk, the river route, 4.2 km
Called someone you had not spoken to in a while
Your own note: “first week I didn't dread Monday”

Illustrative example. In the real thing, everything here comes from your own device and stays there.

How it works

Three steps, and you can undo all of them.

You choose a source

One at a time, and never silently. In Europe you have a free legal right to a copy of your own data, so you can sign once instead of knocking on ten doors. Any source can be revoked again.

It is sealed before it moves

Your device encrypts everything under a key only you hold. When heavier processing is needed it happens inside an attested secure enclave: protected hardware where your data lives for seconds, in memory, never written down, and where we cannot read it.

You get your own life back

A timeline you can walk into, look-backs when they are useful, and the stretches of your past that are worth seeing again. On your terms, at your own pace.

The promise

Only your device and an attested enclave ever see your data in the clear. We cannot read it, keep it, or hand it over.

On your device

Storage is local, and encrypted on your device before anything else happens. The key is made on your device and never sent to us.

Your cloud, your backup

Backups are end-to-end encrypted in your own iCloud or Google Drive. We hold no key to them.

Never the product

Nothing is sold, nothing is used for advertising, and nothing trains a model unless you actively donate it.

THIS IS THE ARCHITECTURE WE ARE BUILDING. PARTS OF IT ARE STILL IN DEVELOPMENT, AND WE WILL NOT CLAIM ONE IS FINISHED BEFORE IT IS.

Where we are

Pre-launch, and building in the open.

We are a small team in Berlin and Darmstadt building the on-device architecture first, because it is the part everything else depends on. Private alpha in 2027, German-speaking launch after that.
